Our goal is to provide our residents with caring, compassionate homes in the community with constant, positive support that will enrich their lives.
Our program is therapeutic in nature in that it offers adults who have developmental disabilities or dual diagnoses, a consistency and predictability in their daily routine. This proves to be very beneficial, as residents tend to settle well, learn basic life skills, and acquire skills to interact with the community.
Over the years we have worked with individuals who have had among them many different disabilities and syndromes. Our individually based programs are designed as much as possible with the specific needs of residents in mind. We have available to us the consultation services of psychiatrists and a psychologist, to help us accommodate the needs of each resident.
We believe that our program has been very successful for our residents.
All staff are required to have up to date first aid and CPR training. We keep on file a police check (CPEC) for each staff member who is hired. Staff have also been trained in and follow QAM (Quality Assurance Measures)
The staff have signed a confidentiality statement so that the residents’ privacy is protected. The staff attend training courses and conferences on a regular basis so we keep up to date on any advances in the field.
The program includes teaching daily hygiene and basic money management. Cooking classes, arts and crafts, and a greenhouse are integrated weekly into the program as well as community outings.
The programs are created by the staff at S.T.E.P.S. A consulting psychologist is available to assist us with these programs after profiles and assessments have been reviewed . The consulting psychologist is also available to assist in setting up clinical goals to help each resident reach their highest potential.
S.T.E.P.S. ensures all residents have their scheduled medical and dental checkups . Various psychiatrists do medication reviews as needed. We have in place an incentive program that rewards residents for positive behaviour.
